TEACHING ENGLISH USING HIP-HOP IN SD KREATIF MUHAMMADIYAH 16 SURABAYA
Music is one of the tools which can be used to express soul, power and communication. There are many kinds of music in this world which had been used by person in the entertainment, art and show business. A person needs to express their heart trough music; in some cases they use it for expressing love and sound of their problem. In addition, music also takes an important ways to communicate with other trough lyric that have they made. In the presentation or training activities, many people use music as media to get a power and increasing their self confidence, so they can reach something as their goal.

English itself is a common language that had been teaching for many years to people in Indonesia. Many methods had been used to teach student at school or English club. At SD Kreatif Muhammadiyah 16 Surabaya teaching method held a serious part to teach to the students, because this school has a goal to make the student has some creative ability in their society or in their daily life. For this reason, me as a teacher must have step to teach English in a various way, so I intend to use music to teach listening, reading, speaking and writing in English. Rap is my way to mix English in rhyme, lyric and beat.

FIRST STEP is using JAZZ CHANTS

1. Do you like a banana ? oh, yes I do
2. Do you like an avocado ? oh, yes I do
3. Do you like a mango ? oh, no I don\'t like it
4. Do you like a star fruit ? oh, no I don\'t like it
5. thank you very much and good bye you\'re welcome and see you later.


Step of teaching :

1. Opening :
1.1. I sing the lyric without music from number 1 till number 5.
1.2. Students try to follow my voice of singing the lyric.
1.3. I try to sing A the students answer by singing B.

2. Main :
2.1. The students divided in to two groups A and B.
2.2. Group A sing the Question lyric then B group answer by singing the B lyric.
2.3. Then both of groups compete the song followed by Hip-Hop beat.

3. Closing :
3.1. They write the name of the picture.
3.2. They try to complete the dialog from the lyric mentioned.
3.3. One by one of the student try to battle with me trough the Lyric.

Alhamdulillah, when I used that method the student become excited and tried to remember the lyric. Their freedom of learning English language proved at that time. When the break time moment arrived, I try to turned on the beat of rap, most of my student sang the lyric with happy and battle with the other friends. They were so happy and enjoyed the song or Hip-Hop beat that I\'ve been made. Why do the students love it?...... it because the pump and the brattle on rap beat is so passionate And cool. The drum and snare combined so beautifully then attract the students to pump and jump and singing the lyric with highly spirited. They didn\'t feel under pressure in learning language. And most of them remembered the dialog which has been presented in lyric unconsciously. From day to day, I turn on the music, the student often sing it. And for the next lesson time, all of the students remembered the dialog and communicate to their friend and sometimes to their parents at home too.

THE SECOND STEP :
The Student Stage Art Performance was going to come. I realized that I have to make a performance of my English club. So, I made a Rap song with theme. Then I offered my idea to my student, and they were welcome and so excited of my offer. The performance titled THE WEATHER. But before that, they have to know about the weather itself. After I made the lyric, the students tried to remember it and sing it with rap style on stage. For the lesson, I made some weather worksheet to test them. Alhamdulillah, they can do it perfectly and I was proud for them. Then I realized that I can do many things of teaching English language in listening, speaking, reading and writing trough Hip-Hop song.

The effect for my students are :
1. They proud of singing Hip-Hop, because it is so excited and cool.
2. They can know many kinds of weather name in English.
3. They are able to communicate with their friend about the weather.
4. They proud to sing it in English on the Art Performance that will be held.
5. They can answer all the question deals with the weather perfectly.
This is The Weather Lyric of Hip-Hop.
